Things to do in NYC

4 mins read

Living in NYC has some benefits because no matter how much money you may have in your checking account you can be sure that there will be something you can do for fun with your family, friends or special someone.

New York City is home to millions of people and countless restaurants, museums and parks. No wonder there is always something to do in this busy city. From the newest restaurant opening (which feel like they happen almost every other day) to new exhibits at museums and free events being held at local parks in every borough, there is something that will satisfy your taste, no matter how picky you may be.

To start off this week here is a list of websites that I am subscribed to to get their newest and best deals on everything from dinner for two at the city’s newest and chic restaurant, to savings passes and sometimes free events sponsored by a museum or a gratis happy hour at a cool bar downtown.

You can browse through these and see what catches your eye. Let’s start with the site that takes all my money first:

  •  Gilt City – My personal favorite is an online shopping site that has a “flash sale” type of inventory. When a sale goes live, daily at 10 a.m., there is a limited quantity that is available until time runs out or it sells out. I’ve bought numerous things here, my most recent purchases being a dinner for two at Dinner on Ludlow and a two-hour trapeze class from Trapeze School New York located in Brooklyn.
  •  Linctix – A must-do for those that enjoy the arts and going to see the newest plays. This is Lincoln Center Theater’s discount ticket program for 21-35-year-old theatergoers. It’s free but you must become a member to get the discounted price with your member number. Keep an eye out for those coveted LincTix nights when members get access to the official after-party with snacks and an open bar!
  •  HIPTIX – like LincTix but this low-price ticket program is open to theatergoers 18-35. Once you become a member you have access to $25 tickets to all Roundabout shows, plus they also host member nights with food and drinks after the show. (These member nights are included with your ticket but tend to sell out first so buy your tix as soon as you see a show you like!)
  •  UNiDAYS – Finally, I enjoy being a student whenever I can get a price cut for it at the places I shop. Am I right? This site gives you access to student discounts from popular and cool brands like ASOS (my closet is like 80% full of clothes from this site), Urban Outfitters, Levi’s, Apple, among many more! It’s free and you can sign up to receive updates from them and be the first to know when there’s a special offer for students.

The only thing left to do now is to go out and explore the city you live in. You can use one site or use them all to plan a perfect day or weekend with that special person or just to treat yourself. Just don’t go overboard like me, or on second thought… go wild! You are welcome.
