For most incoming Queens College students, the Benjamin S. Rosenthal Library might seem like nothing more than a quiet place to read and study. In actuality, the library is actually a very useful place on campus, one which provides comprehensive and helpful resources to ensure that you as a student are able to make the best out of your academic performance.
The library’s vast book collection serves as a valuable resource for all students. With books covering every academic discipline, students can check out books from the library to be used as a study aide for reading up on certain academic subjects or searching for information that will be useful in academic papers. Aside from physical books, the Rosenthal Library’s database system — found on the library’s website — includes access to over 200 databases containing millions of electronic journal articles and e-books that can further help students with finding the information they’re looking for.
The Rosenthal Library also has many spaces to study. There are six levels of the library, all open as study areas. The Computer Commons area on level 2 has desktop computers and printing services available for student use. The library also lends laptops for students to use for five hours at a time. Students can also have a quiet, private study space in the offices on levels four and five — if they can make it to one before another student claims it!
Furthermore, because QC is part of the CUNY system, students are able to check out books found in other CUNY libraries that the Rosenthal Library does not have in stock. The Rosenthal Library also offers Interlibrary Loan services, allowing students to request books and other materials from libraries across the country.
This article is only a mere brief overview of the Rosenthal Library and its services; there is much more it has to offer. To learn more about the library, please visit library.qc.cuny.edu, or ask one of our library staff for anything that you as a student need to know.
